Wound Care

Copper Terrace has an active Interdisciplinary Wound Prevention and Skin Care Team. The focus of the team is to maintain excellence in skin care, the prevention of skin break down and ongoing education of staff, residents and family.

Palliative Care Team

Purpose: To continually reassess and improve Palliative Care services to Residents at Copper Terrace.

Goal: To continually reassess and improve Palliative Care services to Residents at Copper Terrace.

Internal Education: 10 hour in-house Palliative Care Course, focus on Palliative Care of the elderly Resident in a Long Term Care setting.

  • Look at the philosophies and goals of Palliative Care.
  • Dispelling the myths of Palliative Care.
  • Pain and symptom management.
  • Grief support for care givers and families.

Dementia Care Team

Copper Terrace's Dementia Care Team consists of staff members from all department. We believe in a multidisciplinary approach when caring for those with dementia. Some staff have been educated in the Gentle Persuasive Approach, U-First, P.I.E.C.E.S., Montessori techniques, and the Best Friends Approach. Our team liaises with the Alzheimer Society for educational opportunities and to assist with care issues when needed. The team serves as a resource to all front line staff in the management of behaviours related to dementia and to provide a better understanding of dementia to staff, residents and their families.

P.I.E.C.E.S.

The PIECES approach to care encompasses the following:

  • Physical (look at the disease, drugs, disability)
  • Intellect (look at changes in specific areas of the brain)
  • Emotional (is there depression, delusions; loss of independence)
  • Capabilities (focus on what the person can do, not what they cannot do; build on their strengths)
  • Environment (is the environment noisy, cluttered., etc)
  • Social (life story; likes / dislikes; previous coping skills)

Pharmacy

Medical Pharmacies is the homes provider for Residents' medications. We have our own pharmacy consultant who visits regularly to assist staff, Residents and families with any medication related concerns.

Laboratory Services

We have a lab technician who visits our home weekly to perform lab tests ordered by the physician. Results are then communicated back to the home within a 24 hour time frame.

Foot Care

Copper Terrace has trained staff to perform basic and advanced foot care to residents who require this. Advanced foot care clinics are held about every 8 weeks on a fee for service basis.
